Managers - 3 Great Tips For Managing Different Personality Types

Have you held any managerial positions at any company in the past? Have you got friends who are managers in their respective companies?
In the year 2000, I got promoted as a tax administrator after having worked in accounting firms for more than six years. I was aware that at that point that my time at this company would never be identical. It is because I was required to oversee a team of consultants in order to ensure that each assignment would be completed for our clients in time. Furthermore, I’d need to inform my tax partners on the progress of my work and the amount I charged for our customers. However, I was pleased that my experience as a manager was easy since the majority of my employees were easily managed. If I instructed them that they followed, they were able to follow it and finish the work within the timeframe. They were also willing to work extra hours if the work was urgent.

It seems like it’s been a while since I last posted. The people who were working for me have now become managers, and, interestingly, they frequently berate their employees every time I meet with them for a cup of coffee. A few of the complaints include:

The employees are likely to get bored if the work is not changed for a time. They often request various types of jobs. If they are not able to obtain what they want, they can make threats to quit.

The employees will question the instructions that their bosses give them in the event that it doesn’t seem to make sense or seems too strict.

The employees are able to make grammatical or spelling errors in the written letters they send to their customers. But, when their supervisors require them to correct their errors, they can’t scold them. Instead, they have to convince them to make the changes in a pleasant manner.

It is more challenging than ever before for anyone who is in a management position. maybe some of you be asking, “what is wrong with these people?” My answer to that is, “there is nothing wrong with them. We just have to accept that they have different personality types.” I believe that today’s managers need to have the ability to be able to comprehend their employees’ diverse personalities. In this post, I’ll give three tips to manage employees with different personalities and show how managers can benefit from following these guidelines:

Tip No.1 building relationships is an absolute must.

The traditional method of managing personnel was to give them authority to accomplish the task. Staff members were instructed to comply with the directives and not ask questions. Today, it is essential for managers to establish trust with their employees. In terms of creating rapport, I mean that managers need to know their employees’ worldview to anticipate the kind of arguments or counter-proposals staff members might encounter when they are given an instruction. Effective communication is not a monologue but a dialog.

Tip No.2 The different staff members naturally find themselves drawn to various tasks

Based on the Type Theory developed by Carl Jung, There are two kinds of people, namely people who are introverts as well as extraverts. Managers should be aware of the differences between introverts and extroverts and be aware of this when assigning their staff members to different duties. It would be a major challenge for an introvert to interact with new customers or call cold to prospective clients. It will also be difficult for the extravert to research for a project himself.

Tip No.3 The balance between micro-management and delegation is crucial.

Because of different personality types, Some employees prefer to perform assignments by themselves, without any supervision from their bosses. This does not mean that employees aren’t required to keep their supervisors informed on the progress of their work. They would rather not be micro-manager. If you’re a boss who is prone to micromanaging your staff, my suggestion is for you to “learn how to let go”. This will allow you to gain respect from your employees.
