Know the Communication Styles
The way that team members communicate with one another is crucial to the extent to which teams work together. Most people treat each other the way they would like to be treated. Some individuals want direct communication. Others prefer a way of communicating that is more formal. The team must be aware of the different forms of communicating between its members if certain members feel that they are not treated with respect in a direct manner, and open discussions could be broken. Team members’ trust is a thing that will be eroded. The ability to think of different possibilities during meetings will be blocked.
It is crucial that team members understand the different styles of communication and appreciate the various types. The ability to communicate openly and discuss diverse perspectives and options requires an environment that is safe and respectful. In certain situations, immediate decisions have to be taken, for instance, when there is an urgent need. In other cases, the need for time to reflect is necessary. If team members are aware of the different decision-making styles of their members, there will be less conflict and more willingness to explore possibilities that are available.
